I assume Websense are impartial commentators and have no interest in
selling security systems protecting against such attacks?

We did get a problem a couple of years ago on our club picture gallery
when the "comment" feature was abused by posting links to porn websites.
This was easily fixed by unticking the comment option.

The club and other websites on our server use no scripts to interact
with users and probably have insufficient traffic to attract malware.

As Adam suggests, "No script" has options to allow scripts from each
site contributing to a webpage (actual host, ad servers, Google
analytics etc) either permanently or on a one-off basis which covers
most exceptions. I don't know about Flashblock, but its no problem to
click the window to start Flash when needed, especially with one-offs
such as the odd video clip.
