[Waverley ARS] Thick copper wire

Morning Grant,

Being a Monday morning I'm racking my brains to remember the name of the
supplier of all things antenna related in the Southern Highlands, alas
to no avail. No doubt someone will chip in with the name.

They supply 1.8mm hard drawn copper wire which may suit your purpose.
The bad news is the order lot which is a 1kg minimum and is going to
leave you with a lot left over.

Another option may be K&S brass tube available from hobby shops or just
perhaps Bunnings also. The 12 inch lengths are going to be way too
short and the 36 inch lengths probably just too short for the reflector
and first director element at 2m frequencies. Being brass, you can
solder together longer lengths. You will probably find this at Hobbyco
if you've got deep pockets.

Bunnings supply a good range of aluminium tube if you want to go that
way. Why not?

Welding suppliers stocking CIG product for example should be able to
supply brass alloy brazing rod. Stay away from "Copperweld" wire. It's
thinly copper plated steel wire and will rust as soon as you look at it
in the wrong tone of voice!

PS I may be able to spare you some 1.8mm copper but will see how much I
have left and subtract a 20M dipole first.

Gday,

I have found a design in July Popular Comms for a marine VHF beam.

Could anyone please advise where I can buy thick copper wire/solderable
welding rod/copper or brass hobby tubing to make the elements?

Thanks, Grant. VK2GEL.
