Hi Daniel,

Grab a Dick Smith Catalogue and look for the resistor colour codes. 
Failing that, Wikipedia saves the day:

Desolder the resistor and test it with an ohmmeter (don't test it in 
circuit, you probably won't get an accurate reading). It may be brown, 
but the part could still work, and that may not be the problem. Also, it

may not be the only problem.
