Hello all,
For those in the know - I've just added a command to YubNub called
"acma". Simply type "acma vk2fnrd" (or any other Aussie callsign -
doesn't even have to be amateur) to do a search on the radiocomms registrar.
There's also another one for QRZ.com that I found just before adding
command in. Try "qrz wa3qiz" to do a search on the FCC callsign database. *1
For those who want to know more... YubNub - it's a very powerful way to
enter commands via your web browser to get search results on stuff
you're researching. It's made even more powerful if you use it to
replace your standard browser search utility.
Anyway here's how to use YubNub:
http://www.yubnub.org
And to use it... Let's pretend you want to do a google search. You enter
"g vk2fnrd".
Now let's say you want a google image search "gim vk2fnrd"
And then perhaps you want to do a callsign search on the ACMA website
(this is the command I added just tonight).
It's a single site to let you use multiple search engines powerfully -
I've used it to replace my regular search box in Firefox; and although I
have to prepend most Google searches with a "g" the fact that I don't
have to type in any urls or select a search from a drop down menu is a
real time saver. It's probably going to help prevent RSI a little too.
Regards,
73 VK2FNRD... Adam
*1 Trivia: WA3QIZ is a reference to The Simpsons character Seymour
Skinner who owns that call in the Simpsons universe. In real life it
used to be owned by one of the Show's writers. I think it stands
unallocated atm.
