Hi Colin,
Actually, that's not correct.
The club was definitely alive and well during the 1950's when people like
Phil Card VK2ZBX, VK2ZBX and Tony La Macchia, VK2BTL were in it. It was
then reformed in about 1973 when several of us, Phil VK2ZBX, Duane VK2VE and
myself decided to get it running again as we were experimenting with a
repeater. It ran for a number of years that time. We then reformed it in
1984 and it has been running since. Eddie is going to contact Phil and Tony
to see if he can get some recollections from them.
73....Eric VK2VE.

Tnx Eddie
I looked up their site and read their History section.
They refer to the continuous nature of their history and compare this with
other clubs.
Of course WARS history has not been continuous - there was quite a long
break post-war until it re-started, I think in about 1988+/- . Anyway there
is no doubt that it's early start in 1919 and active, innovative and
pioneering activities over a long period fully merit its place in the
amateur radio hall of fame......
The MRAC might be interested to hear about us.

Dear Colin,
They had the advantage that their club formed before the USA entered
WW1 1917 and their history is a bit fuzz about this time.
Found their website at:
http://www.w9rh.org/index.htm
and a comment in their History version 2008.
http://www.w9rh.org/documents/MRAC_History_2008_Edition.pdf
"For a number of years the club touted itself as the oldest
continuously active amateur radio club in the world. In recent years we
have discovered information that disproves that. However, while a
number of clubs actually started before MRAC. Only a handful remain and
of those only about 3 or 4 have remained continuously active. So MRAC
is one of a very few of the world's oldest continuously active amateur
radio clubs. Interestingly, as one of the newly discovered documents
show, MRAC was not the first club formed in the Milwaukee area. The
Milwaukee Radio Association was formed previous to MRAC. That club died
out during World War I and it's membership was absorbed into MRAC.
(maybe we should change our start date?). But why not read the story
for yourself."
Maybe we should challenge them!!

> On March 27, the night before Superfest, Inderbitzen attended a
meeting of the Milwaukee Radio Amateurs' Club (MRAC) and spoke about
sharing the passion for Amateur Radio with friends and family members.
This club, founded in 1917, will celebrate 90 years of ARRL Club
Affiliation in 2009. In recognition of this milestone, Inderbitzen
presented MRAC President Howard Parks, AB9FH, with an ARRL Recognition
Award "for its commitment to Amateur Radio and to the American Radio
Relay League."
