Dear Colin,
They had the advantage that their club formed before the USA entered
WW1 1917 and their history is a bit fuzz about this time.
Found their website at:
http://www.w9rh.org/index.htm
and a comment in their History version 2008.

"For a number of years the club touted itself as the oldest
continuously active amateur radio club in the world. In recent years we
have discovered information that disproves that. However, while a
number of clubs actually started before MRAC. Only a handful remain and
of those only about 3 or 4 have remained continuously active. So MRAC
is one of a very few of the world's oldest continuously active amateur
radio clubs. Interestingly, as one of the newly discovered documents
show, MRAC was not the first club formed in the Milwaukee area. The
Milwaukee Radio Association was formed previous to MRAC. That club died
out during World War I and it's membership was absorbed into MRAC.
(maybe we should change our start date?). But why not read the story
for yourself."
Maybe we should challenge them!!

> Hi!
> In the current ARRL Newsletter Online I was surprised to see a
reference to a radio club which beat the WARS start-up date by a couple
of years....!
> I'm sure it's pretty rare!

> On March 27, the night before Superfest, Inderbitzen attended a
meeting of the Milwaukee Radio Amateurs' Club (MRAC) and spoke about
sharing the passion for Amateur Radio with friends and family members.
This club, founded in 1917, will celebrate 90 years of ARRL Club
Affiliation in 2009. In recognition of this milestone, Inderbitzen
presented MRAC President Howard Parks, AB9FH, with an ARRL Recognition
Award "for its commitment to Amateur Radio and to the American Radio
Relay League."
