[Waverley ARS] Log Books and Logging Software

Hi Henrik
When I used to keep a log, I found it easier to use paper as a computer
is hard to use with CW and may not be available or doesnt like RF nearby
(some laptops). Later I would transfer to a simple data base (you could
use a spreadsheet) as this enabled me to list and summarise contacts by
callsign, country etc on paper (its always polite to know if you have
worked someone before). I used to record UTC, callsign, name, RST,
frequency with a comment column. At that time logging programs had to be
purchased and it was simpler to do my own as I could define the report
formats.
I havent used a purpose made logging program, but with any software be
sure that you can transfer the data to another application easily when
you need to. Too many people use them for contests , which is why you
rarely get a true signal report (its always 5,9 even if you have to
repeat details several times). I think sometimes they can be connected
to a rig!
A few thoughts
