Dear members,
I have received further information from Fred Swainston VK3DAC regarding
the new industry recognised certification for competency in amateur
radio. Please note that it has still yet to be publically announced,
but I have been asked by Fred to pass it around the club. I guess you
need to watch the WIA website next week for the official announcement.
For those who don't know, Fred runs the Registered Training Organisation
that trains and certifies WIA assessors and learning facilitators. His
RTO will also administer this new competency standard also.
You may wonder why I have been advertising this recently. It basically
means that your competency in amateur radio at a minimum Standard
license level can be recognised with a national industry (ElectroComms
and EnergyUtilities Industry Skills Council) recognised qualification.
For those of us like me who do not have a techincal background or
qualification, it means another certificate in the resume or for the
wall of the shack.
Fred has asked me to register preliminary interest amongst exisiting
standard and advanced licensees and of course, there is the foundation
to standard upgrade group currently under way also. Please let me know
if you are interested in enroling for assessment.
Please read Fred's email for further information and also see the
competency standard in the following link
http://www.ee-oz.com.au/resources/misc/3011.pdf
I am happy to continue liasing with Fred, or alternatively I am happy to
pass this over to an appointed club official if so desired.
regards
Edwin.

Edwin
A little more information. I will keep you posted as the infor comes
through.
There is now a Nationally Recognised competency standard that approximately
equates to the Standard Licence. This competency standard is UEENEEB001A,
Operate and maintain an amateur radio communication station. This
competency is in the Broadcast section of the Electrotechnology Training
Package UEE06.
This competency will be recognised by industry.
To be assessed for this competency you must seek enrolment with the
Registered Training Organisation, TrainSafe Australia and there will be an
enrolment fee.
For this competency you will need to provide evidence of successfully
completing a Standard Licence and that you maintain an amateur radio
station. Such evidence may include photographs of test equipment and
projects, that would indicate hands on construction and maintenance.
Please let me know if any of your group wish to continue to seek this
competency. The
public announcements in relation to the competency and its availability are
in the process of being finalised and should be available during next week.
Regards
Fred Swainston
