[Waverley ARS] Unsuspected RFI Source

Many of you probably already knew this, but hopefully it is of some help
to a few people trying to get rid of that interference.
About 6 months ago I bought an LCD flatscreen monitor instead of CRT
(despite preferring CRT because of the faster refresh rates; but now I
can't really tell :p). When I got licensed and plugged my radios in, I
also thought it would have the added bonus of having minimal RF
interference.
How wrong I was. As I type this email I am reading on my VX7R an S
reading of between 5-8 from VK2ROT; with about half the other repeaters
S > 9 and half strangely, nothing... When I turn the monitor off it
immediately drops to 1-3 across the board, and sometimes nothing at all
on the previously affected stations.
Lesson learned: The Dell LCDs are not low RFI despite the fact they
aren't full of cathode rays hitting a phosphourescent screen!
(As an afterthought: it might be the backlight in the LCD that is
causing it).
