[Waverley ARS] My server power supply

Hi Daniel,

I haven't seen your original post, for some reason, only the replies.

I just want to introduce a word of warning here. Switchmode power supplies
can be VERY dangerous to work on as the capacitors can hold a charge for
quite a while and bite the unwary. The voltage across these capacitors will
be in the order of 380V DC when the supply is connected so just be very
careful if you are working on it. They are also normally directly connected
to the mains so there is no isolation from the power supply when they are
on. The only isolation is between the primary circuit and the output
connections which are, of course isolated by the internal transformer.

Hi Daniel,

Nice work with the rack restoration :)

With the DL380 PSU, it may be entirely repairable, or it may be entirely
irrepairable. Only way to tell would be to check out what's wrong with
it, which as Simon pointed out, someone at the club may be able to do.

Failling that, if the DL380 is anything like the DL360 (and it looks
very similar) it's HP proprietory - not a standard replacement part; you
might need to get a new one from HP; or see if you can do an 'RMA'
(product return). Those are usually only covered by warranty, or if you
pay for a support contract.

If it's a redundant power supply, put a sticker on the working one, and
bring them both down to the club. Comparing a known good one might make
the job a bit easier for anyone repairing it.

73 and Regards,

Adam
