[Waverley ARS] Hexbeams vs Buddipole

Hi Richard,

I was already contemplating building the hexbeam, after reading your
email, you've convinced me to DIY it from scratch :)

VK6HZ has a project running where he is building one
(http://home.exetel.com.au/vk6hz/Hexbeam_cons.html), and it certainly
looks like a place to start. K4KIO has even more details
http://www.leoshoemaker.com/hexbeambyk4kio/general.html

In terms of the spreaders, I remember as a child playing with an Ikea
tent. It had these fibreglass rod sections that connected inside
eachother, and kept in place by a length of elastic. For field operation
(don't ask: short story, no HF at home), the ability to erect and
disassemble quickly is important, as well as being light to hand carry.

I guess I have some more dreaming to do once I get home from work
tonight, and Simon mentioned there's the ARRL Antenna Handbook, so I
hope to swing by on Tuesday and have a browse through it in the afternoon.

Thanks for the motivation (I'm not sure if it was intended, but it
worked!), and I hope to be able to take you up on your offer of seeing
the backstay antenna in the near future :)

73 and Regards,

Adam
