The most important event on the Amateur calendar...the Remembrance
Day contest occurs next month (starts Sat 11 August).

The contest format has certainly changed over the years.
I was surprised to see some of the rule changes....repeat contacts
are now allowed on HF after two hours....also double points between
one am and six am. Both of these I believe are good and will
encourage and reward the night owls out there.
The RD contest occurs on the closest weekend to VP Day (Victory in
the Pacific).
The contest provides awards for club stations...if we participate we
will probably have some strong competition from the likes of the
VK2WIA, Oxley ARC and Bathurst ARC...I suggest our antennas systems
and procedures will have to be in top shape. The recent Trans Tasman
160m contest was great fun and gave first hand experience at
contesting to some of the newer hams. Participating in the RD
contest is a real experience....it can be very "competitive" and the
bands can be quite crowded.
I have not been a part of multi operator station in the RD
contest...multi operator is a different category to single operator
as there is an expectation that multi-operators will have greater
capability to score than a single operator station....maybe we could
plan to see that we do take advantage as this is probably what others
do....suggest dedicated data entry operators (penciller)?...possibly
cockatoos to scan other bands for stations not worked?...perhaps a
networked PC so the cockatoos can check for dupes?...spare tubes for
the finals?...band pass filters?...Laurie's multi headphone setup is essential.
Cheers, Brad VK2CEC
