Hi Everyone,

I have been doing a bit of research on components for building power
supplies.

Jaycar have some nice toroidal power transformers which are ideal for the
project. They are part number MT2132 which is rated at 18 + 18V at 16.6A
continuous when wired in parallel. These can be obtained through Electus for
$45.15 each down to 34.90 each in 5 up quantities. These will quite easily
do 20A peak

The ZR1324 Bridge rectifier is rated at 35A and can be obtained for $3.02 in
1 off or $2.40 in 10 off quantities.

LM723 regulators are under $1 each

There are various transistors which can be used. There is the ubiquitous
2N3055 although I don't really favour it these days as there are far better
ones on the market now.

Cases and heatsinks are often a matter of what you might have available at
the time or how you want to encase the supply. Providing it is safe, it is
more a matter of preference. Even so, a new one can be purchased for around
$10-12 with more than adequate ratings.

Electrolytic capacitors will cost a little more. Probably between $20 & $30
and Jaycar does not have a particularly good range. There are other sources,
though.
