Gentlemen, thank you for the information, I am now much wiser.  
I had the six responses listed below, all good info. with sound reasoning  :-

6)    Good one Jim!  Try Georges in York Street .. Or if you go to Bondi Junction all the Phone Shops are on level 1, and you can check all the prices.  I have found in the past that Tandy seem to be the cheapest.    Bob VK2SOB

I looked at numerous offers on eBay and quite afew supplier's websites.  Deals were many and various ranging from $2.99 ea + $12 p&p to $22 ea + $5 p&p, free delivery if your order exceeds $100!

I decided to by-pass the eBay deals with the doubts about methods of payment etc.and have ordered one from e-Batteries @ $7.35 + $10 p&p. The costs are mitigated by also ordering a four-pack each of AA & AAA NmH cells, at a very reasonable price,with payment by Bank Transfer.

A friend of mine has a Nokia 2100 mobile phone 
with a battery that is approaching "end of life".  
She has been quoted $80.00 for its replacement!

Does anyone know a source of replacement 
batteries at a more reasonable price?
