[Waverley ARS] ACMS Amateur Licence Renewal Problem

Hi Simon,

That may be what they told you on the phone but is not what happens in
practice.

When I had my last KUR renewal, about middle of last year, I simply found
out what the correct amount for 5 years was and paid that amount using
B-Pay. About a week later, the new license came back with the new, correct
expiry date on it.

All you have to do is pay the correct amount for the period of renewal and
they will adjust the date automatically.

I actually found this out about 5 years ago when I had previously renewed
(KUR) for 5 years but, between the time I checked the amount and when it was
paid the price rose slightly. When I received my new license, it had a
different end date from the original one being about 3 months less because
of the price rise. I found this out because I rang them and asked why the
date on the new one was different and was told it was because I had not paid
the new full amount for the 5 years so it was pro rated.

73....Eric.

Subject: [Waverley ARS] ACMS Amateur Licence Renewal Problem

Dear Michael

The WIA might like to take up with the ACMA the issue of licence renewal
for more than one year.

I received a recent renewal notice from the ACMA covering one year. No
other option was mentioned. Having renewed for longer periods
previously, I was able to find on their web site what were the rates for
up to 5 years, but no indication of how to apply for one.

I therefore contacted them and was told that if I wanted a longer
period, I must return my renewal to their Canberra office with a cheque
to cover the longer period and they would take manual action. Any other
payment options (eg BPAY) would not work.

I did suggest that improvements to the process be made but I think it
will have more effect coming from the institute.

They need to
1) Advise on the renewal that other periods than 1 year are possible and
quote rates and the method of payment
2) Advise on the web site how to pay for other periods.
3) Allow BPAY for any period chosen.

I am sure that many members as well as other hams would appreciate you
taking this issue up with the ACMA.

Thanks and 73

Simon Buxton VK2UA
