Hi
Thanks Eddie, another interesting piece of history.
As a reminder to our newer members, circuits for Waverley's first
receiver and transmitter from 1920 can be found on our web site. The
transmitter was a spark type and the receiver a 1-valve. In those days
it was necessary to provide circuits of both types of equipment to get a
licence. It is interesting to note that receive only licences were also
allocated call signs and I remember that even in the 1950s in the UK
pseudo callsigns (I think G plus a 4 figure number) were allocated to
SWLs. This was useful for exchange of QSL cards when hams liked to get
reception reports from SWLs.
Note that VK5BR would have been allocated 5BR in 1923 as the VK prefix
only started in 1928.
For our history just click on the "Club history" link on the side bar on
the home page of our site. There is also a link to another site covering
the early history of Australian callsigns.
