Hi
The club has a large quantity of flexible braid wire suitable for
antennas. It is available to members for $0.20 per metre. If interested,
come along to project day on the 4th November and pick some up.
The wire is in 2.5 - 3.5mm dia sizes. It is made up of a large number of
fine strands (approx 40 swg x 100). It is said to make excellent antenna
wire which is easy to handle and solder. It is all bare copper. It could
probably be used as de-soldering braid too.
It appears excellent for indoor or portable operation, but there seem to
be reservations on its life for permanent outdoor use as it is not
tinned. See
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4327?ehamsid=d659bc8bba5b7ba9f7e5bc84a894cb45
for comments on its suitability.
Similar braid is sold by a number of US suppliers at the equivalent of
$A0.60 - 0.80 cents/metre. See http://www.radiobooks.com/products/fw.htm
for one suppliers prices and product description.
