Hello Dx-pedition buffs,

SBS TV is featuring Clipperton Island show tomorrow night (Sunday) at 8:30 pm.

Clipperton is a very isolated desolate and uninhabited island in the
north east pacific. It is somewhat well know for the very few
dx-peditions that visit there.

The "Clipperton L" is the name adopted by Dentron for its once
popular HF linear.

I recently obtained a video of the 2000 dx-pedition to Clipperton
Island (FO0AAA). The video quality is first rate. Luckily the
organisers took into account the need to document this rare event by
bringing along a professional cinematographer. The video production
has excellent audio, interviews and of course photography. It goes
for 60 minutes...it is not all ham radio, to break the monotony of HF
crackling in your ears for 60 minutes the footage is broken up with
interesting segments about the island's history, and inhabitants
(birds/crabs etc) and environment.

The video shows Clipperton as a fairly neglected place littered with
rubbish and ruins and wrecks. It will be interesting to compare this
with tomorrow nights SBS show.

I also have a video of the 1999 Campbell Island (ZX9CI) dx-pedition
it is produced by the same guy as the Clipperton Island one and is
also first class. (Duration 60 minutes). Campbell is a beautiful,
pristine island located way south of New Zealand. Both videos give a
good idea of the planning, organisation and operational
considerations of a successful dx-pedition. There is plenty of
product placement on both.

Both vids are available for showing at the club if people are interested.

It would be great to get a video of the recent Peter Island
dx-pedition as the still pictures were sensational.
